Holidays are joyful...
It's been SO nice to have a break from school. I'm dreading going back on Wednesday, but oh well. Christmas was very fun- Becky came up and we had a blast hanging out. I went sledding the day after Christmas and also went to a friend's house where I was introduced to Guitar Hero. I had my doubts, but it was quite fun! Thursday mom and I headed down to Zach and Jenni's. It's been a blast! Jenni and I made chocolates, which were delicious! I've spent a lot of time playing with Lizzie. I normally can bribe her to play with me if I show her my phone. We dressed 
her up in a tutu, which Jenni said was more for us to enjoy than Lizzie. But I took a lot of cute photos of her dancing around!

Mom also gave her a baby stroller and baby and Lizzie has been running up and down the hall with it. I watched Stardust too. It was definitely a strange movie, but I liked it better than I had thought I would. This afternoon, Mom, Jenni, and I went to the mall to go see Enchanted. Alas, it was sold out!! I was bummed. I mean, granted, I've already seen it, but I was excited to see it again! I also got two offers to go see National Treasure 2. I'm grateful for these boys who are willing to take me on dates! I never go to movies, but in the last month I've seen Enchanted and Alvin and the Chipmunks because of boys.

Pink-eye, Grover Cleveland, and Newtons Law
Today has been crazy! I woke up with a lovely case of pink-eye. Mom was able to pick up prescription for it. Hopefully it goes away soon! Unfortunately, I have my big christmas choir concert tomorrow, so I hope my eye is not as puffy and red tomorrow night. It's been quite the adventure wearing my glasses and not putting on eyeshadow, eyeliner, or mascara. Certainly decreased the time it took to get ready. But the eyedrops that the doctor prescribed seem to be working. They have some side effects though- burning/stinging (check), headache (check), and brow-ache (as weird as that sounds, I've experienced it this afternoon). Ugh. I love getting pink-eye right before Christmas vacation. Good timing conjunctivitis.
The "Grover Cleveland" in my post came from me doing my history terms. I had about 40 that are due tomorrow. Luckily I started them last night, but I still worked for aboue 1.5 hours today to finish up. I learned all about the "forgettable presidents" :Grant, Hayes, Cleveland, Garfield, Arthur...I might be forgetting someone, but I guess that's okay since they didn't really do much importance. I was kind of confused at what I was reading about, but my teacher does a great job at covering everything.
Lastly, Newtons Law- that was my math homework. I had a few problems that I didn't finish up in Calc. Lab, and I just love it when we have problems that my teacher didn't go over at all- like Percent Error. Hmm..yeah, not ringing a bell. Anyway, I finished that up, wrote in my journal, and decided to write a new post.
Any other exciting news? I went on two dates this weekend- I don't know what it is. I have dating famines, then a sudden surplus of boys asking me out. Well, not really. But in the last ten days, I've been on three dates, which is pretty good for high school boys (who never date, but merely "hang out"). The first date I went to a restaurant. Friday night I went to see Alvin and The Chipmunks, which was actually pretty funny. And Saturday night, I walked around Temple Square. It was beautiful, but very cold!! I'll post pics. of Sat. night of the temple.

i came across a photo today of me with quite short hair. I think it's cute. I don't think I'm going to chop my hair anytime soon (it's taken SO long to grow), but does shorter hair make me look younger or older?

review of CHRISTMAS movies
well...I didn't know what to blog about. I was going to start the A-Z thing like Jen did, but I decided not to start that yet as I am not as creative as she was! So, since we are inthe holiday season, I thought I would review some holiday films in case you were unsure of what to watch.
ELF- Will Ferrel as Buddy the Elf. You know, "buddy the elf, what's your favorite color?" The elf obsessed with syrup and Santa Claus. He even spots the fake one at Gimballs, and accuses him of smelling like "beef and cheese". I love this more-modern holiday film. I have even watched it in July! It is sure to make you laugh as Buddy travels through the seven levels of the Candy Cane Forest, encounters his dad (singing him a "christmas-gram"), falls in love, and leads the New Yorkers in real Christmas cheer (by singing loud for all to hear.). I love the innocence of Buddy as he encounters modern-day NYC. Watch this movie. It never gets old!
It's A Wonderful Life- This holiday classic features James "Jimmy" Stewart as George Bailey. He questions his importance in this life, and by the visitation of an angel, learns what life would be like without him. Not only was it voted the #1 inspirational film of all time in AFI's "100 Years, 100 Cheers", but it was also ranked as the #1 Most Powerful Movie of All Time by the American Film Institute. And it is no wonder why this film received those acclaimed titles. When I watch this movie, it makes me realize that each life is important to someone in someway.
Holiday Inn- A 1942 classic, Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire sing as a singing and dancing duo. Astaire always happens to fall in love with the girls that Crosby loves. Intertwined into this romance is wonderful music and amazing dancing. This was actually the first film that featured Irving Berlins famed “White Christmas”, which in 2007 remained the best-selling music single ever. This show is in black-and-white, but I think it just adds to its magic!
White Christmas- Debuting in 1954, another holiday classic was born. I will admit to a small obsession with Bing Crosby. I love his velvety voice, and this movie was no exception to his talent. That’s what first attracted me to this movie. White Christmas was originally written to reunite Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby, but Astaire was retired, and refused the role. But Danny Kaye, who took Astaire’s place, is a hilarious sidekick to Crosby (who plays Bob Wallace). Wallace and Davis (Kaye) are a singing/dancing duo who perform for various clubs, and meet up with two sisters (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and of course, each one falls in love with a sister. The four work together to produce a show for a retired General of Wallace and Davis. The music only adds to the splendor of the film, which is one of the first holiday films to be in color. And, and interesting note, Vera-Ellen, who played Judy Haynes (one of the sisters) did not actually sing at all in the movie, her voice was dubbed!
Santa Clause- Starring Tim Allen, I am sure many of you have seen this holiday comedy. Tim Allen becomes Santa Clause when he finds that the old Santa had fallen off his roof. Without noticing the Santa “Clause” (which states that if you put on the suit, you become Santa), Allen begins to physically morph into Jolly Old St. Nicholas, which causes problems between his ex-wife and her new husband. This movie is funny, witty, and has a good lesson. While at the North Pole, Allen learns from Judy the Elf that, “Seeing isn’t believing; believing is seeing.”
Mr. Krueger’s Christmas- I grew up watching this movie. This quality film is only a half-hour long, but covers everything a worthwhile movie needs. Willy Krueger (Stewart) is a lonely janitor is a basement apartment. He hears carolers, and invites them in for some much-needed company. One of the carolers is a little girl, Clarissa, who befriends Krueger. She accidentally leaves behind her mittens. Krueger begins to reminisce of his wife who had died, and realizes the true meaning of Christmas. Meanwhile, Clarissa realizes she left her mittens, and once the carolers return, Mr. Krueger is invited to carol with them, which presents him with a chance for some company for a change. This holiday film will make you teary-eyed, and help you appreciate what Christmas is all about.
PS...After I wrote this, I realized this could make a good column for the newspaper. So, I actually turned it in to my boss :) Yay! Blogs=work=money

little children...
Okay today for Chamber Choir we went and sang at various elementaries in the area. It was so much fun! To start off, I had to leave early from first period, which is AP US. My teacher hates when students have to leave early. He said "What are you leaving for?" "We are singing at elementary schools today." Response, "They don't care! Just play a c.d. for them, and they won't even tell a difference. Back when I was in chamber choir, we sang to ourselves and LIKED it!" Haha...that probably wasn't funny to anyone...but it made me laugh. He is my favorite teacher.
Anyway first school- well let's just say we learned what to do/not do for future performances!
We visited three elementary schools before heading back for a lunch break. And I actually had math class, so I went to that. After going to Wendys during lunch, we headed to our last elementary. There was a little girl from my ward there and she kept giving me the sweetest grins. Then there is a part where we are "singing spies" and we go into the audience and sing "with" the children. These two little boys said, "Ew! Singing spies." then burst into giggles when they turned and saw me there. My friend was standing over by some other children, and I said to them,"You better listen to him. He's a good singer!" Apparently one of the boys had seen me and said, "Woah, high school girls are pretty!" Haha. And then there was a little boy that gave me the "call me" sign. Too funny.
We got back to school with about ten minutes to spare. I had seminary, which I love, so I convinced the whole carload (rather..truckload) to come with me. There were seven of us. My teacher had us come and sing for the class. It was funny though because I was an alto and there was only one soprano, which made our songs quite interesting- we had to be brave and know our part!!
Anyway, it's snowing. Beautiful snow!

Christmas kickoff
First, I wanted to copy my sisters and do this survey. Secondly, I had been doing this survey for like ten minutes when it disappeared off my screen. I don't know what button I pushed, but I'm kinda ticked off.

2. Real tree or artificial? real trees are better with all their imperfections, but we have a beautiful artificial tree and an evergreen candle.
3. When do you put up the tree? generally the day after thanksgiving
4. When do you take the tree down? first week in January
5. Do you like eggnog? I used to hate it, but I don't mind it now.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? A teddy bear that I got in first grade. I still sleep with it!
7. Do you have a nativity scene? yes, quite a few. I even have one in my bedroom.
8. Hardest person to buy for? JEN! Hint, hint- a christmas list would be nice.

10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I'm not sure...

18. Travel for Christmas or stay at home? home, haven't you ever heard the song, "Oh there's no place like home for the holidays..."
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Yes, you know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen. But do you recall...the most famous reindeer of all?? Rudolph...

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas morning
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Feeling like you won't be able to find somethign "good enough" for some people.

LARGER houses.
on a drive yesterday, I saw this house. It is HUGE. I mean it took up the whole culdesac, and would hardly fit in the picture. It made me think. That would be awesome to live in a house like that, but why would you need that much space?? How many kids do you think will live there? I just think it is crazy that the house was so large.But I think it is very beautiful, nonetheless. Anyway, just thought I'd share.

A Brother's Visit
If you have visited my sister's blog, you might see some similar photos : ) This weekend my brother came for a visit, and besides going to an Improv show with his dorky high school sister (aka me!), we had a lot of fun playing Wii (i beat him at boxing), and running (he only won at the very end..and it about killed him!). It was a very fun weekend. And I got to expand my musical interests as I listened to some "different" music with him. "Gansgta" if you wish to call it. He knew all the words. Hehe. mixed up dreams
Can I just tell you that I love love love country music?? I really do. And a lot of people I know don't, especially others in chamber choir. I mean how could I possibly sing with a little country drawl when I clearly know how to enunciate my words, and have long vowels, not wide ones? So I feel kind of embarrassed when I sing country, knowing how to properly sing. But I like my "southern voice" better than singing some classical, slow ballad. Anyway, tonight I watched the CMA Awards, and seeing girls like Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, and Kellie Pickler inspired me to continue singing...
Carrie Underwood- Brought to fame from American Idol supporters (the first audition she ever had I thought she was amazing, and knew she would be my favorite all season!). She was just a farmer from Oklahoma, and now she has won Female Vocalist of the Year twice, and best single..and the horizon award..wow.
Taylor Swift- She won the Horizon award tonight, which is like saying "Welcome to country, you are a star!" and she said, "This is definitely the highlight of my senior year!" How cool is that? I mean I see the pros and cons of that for sure. I think I would regret not having an actual highschool because you were creating an album, then again, working with big stars, and getting an award wouldn't be too bad!
Kellie Pickler- She hasn't won any big awards, but she was the sixth finalist on American Idol. And she performed tonight at the CMA Awards. I think that is so cool. It just gives me encouragement to keep singing, no matter what!
Now, how realistic is it that I would ever sign a record deal? Slim to none. But it is definitely a dream of mine. Today in calculus, the boy I was sitting by (one who said I was a good singer, but he didn't like country), said, "what do you want to be? a country singer?" He said it in a mocking, no-way-on-earth that would happen. So I think it would be cool to make it big (or even make it small!) and come back to a high school reunion and look him in the eye and say, "Remember what you thought I couldn't become?" Man, I hadn't planned on ranting this long...
So as I was in the shower, I was thinking, how would I get this dream to come true? Move to Nashville? That's probably a good step, but when? Right after high school? Could I just give up going right to college, when that's what all these AP classes I am taking are for? Or would I move to Nashville after college? But by then, will I be married? Scared of taking chances? I've heard you have to live your dreams, but which ones? Because mine are:
*Country Singer (unrealistic as it may be)
*Broadcast Journalism (anchor for the news)
*wife and mother
So, I can't be all three. I guess I don't need to worry about it, but suddenly I started thinking of the future. I am sure this post is just nonsense in your eyes, but, for me tonight, it makes perfect sense. Thanks for listening...reading.
Carrie Underwood- Brought to fame from American Idol supporters (the first audition she ever had I thought she was amazing, and knew she would be my favorite all season!). She was just a farmer from Oklahoma, and now she has won Female Vocalist of the Year twice, and best single..and the horizon award..wow.
Taylor Swift- She won the Horizon award tonight, which is like saying "Welcome to country, you are a star!" and she said, "This is definitely the highlight of my senior year!" How cool is that? I mean I see the pros and cons of that for sure. I think I would regret not having an actual highschool because you were creating an album, then again, working with big stars, and getting an award wouldn't be too bad!

halfway mint
So, tonight I went to get a shake with some friends. I ordered mint oreo. I normally order oreo (about 98 percent of the time), so this was a stretch for me. We get the shakes, and I think to myself, "Self, these shakes don't look very minty." We leave, and as I begin to eat it, I can't tell if I can taste mint or not. I couldn't tell if I was just trying to tell myself it was minty because I wanted it to be. Well, I couldn't really tell because it was dark in the car. Then I got home, and in the light of the living room, I could see a spider in the top of my shake!! How disgusting, and how untrue. Did I catch you off guard? Haha...excellent. No, actually what I found was that my shake was a very very light green, not at all the color I expected. I know why I stick with plain-jane Oreo- I'm never dissapointed!

Running is...
I've heard that running is mostly in the mind. I never believed it. I have ran cross country and track for multiple years, and I still would listen to the pain, and try and conv
ince myself that people who said it was 'all in the mind' were just positive people. But, today, I could feel a headache approaching (for about the tenth time this week!) and so, I decided to go for a run. I hadn't been since the region cross country meet. Actually, I went running during a hike on Monday (see picture- that's me resting...sort of), but I hadn't been "running, running." Anyway, I started out going on a course we like to call the 'tempo run' (sometimes confused with 'temple' run, which would be horrendously longer). Then, when I got the the street where I would normally turn to head home, I kept going instead. I was approaching the chain of fast-food venues that normally make me nauseous when I'm running,when lo and behold, I catch sight of a fellow peer. But, he was more than an average Joe peer, he was the "Drew" in the 'Teardrops On My Guitar' song (by Taylor Swift) with his girlfriend, and a few others. If you haven't heard that song, then you are probably confused, so I recommend checking youtube or something. Better yet, I will just post a video on here of it for YOUR convenience (who you are, I'm not sure...). Well, after nodding, giving a brief wave, and trying to sound like I could breathe just fine, called out, "Hey guys." Then, of course the only light that had to turn red so I couldn't keep going, did. I kept myself from turning around and looking at the happy group date going on. As soon as the flashing pedestrian appeared on the crosswalk signal, I took off like a rocket. And I didn't stop until I was done. Yay! Maybe running is a lot in your mind- I normally would have stopped! I dont think I've suddenly become and optimistic person. But, I realized my greatest motivation in running- seeing the guy you like with his girlfriend...anger! But, hey, my headache is gone.
