Isn't ironic how one thing can make you so happy...and the next minute your mood can completely change?
Is this only something I deal with?
Or, thinking way too long and hard about something...getting all excited, and then being let down.
So I ask the question- would you rather get hyped up and all excited only to be disappointed? Or is it better to be realistic from the start, that way eliminating or at least lessening the pain?

currently:
-sitting in my apartment, finishing up a 3 page paper on the book we had to read over the summer, Choosing Civility, by P.M. Forni.
-watching A Cinderella Story with my roommates
-having my hair curled by roommate Sam, who is awesome at doing hair!
-thinking I should definitely stop the daily habit of eating quesadillas if I want to avoid the "freshman 15"
-wondering what my weekend has in store
-hoping certain things will happen
-considering going rock climbing tonight with the roomies
-chewing a piece of gum that has lost its flavor
-thinking that Chad Michael Murray is a hunk.
-losing feeling in my tush (from sitting on it for awhile)
Now, that's what I call multi-tasking!

grocery store adventures, etc.
wow. the life of a college student...
Today classes started. Monday's will most definitely be my busiest days (make no mention that I am blogging, ok?). I have 5 classes on Monday- Communications, Institute, Nutrition, Computer and a newspaper class. The computer class is, unfortunately, required. I'm none too thrilled about it, but we'll see how it goes! It's also a bit stressful that we're going to start using the required books later this week and I'm still waiting for them to come in the mail...a little unnerving!
I also have been writing articles for the paper, and the first edition came out today. Check here and here for those articles.
Other than that, it's a little weird to have to bum rides off people for trips to Walmart, but luckily someone seems to be going whenever I realize I'm in need of something! Saturday I only had a few things to buy- milk (I never would've guessed I'd drink a gallon by myself...it turns out I really like milk when I don't have good water!), strawberries, grapes, salsa (my quesadilla was none-too-pleasant without), and a doughnut (ahem, for the ride home...). Then, another friend was going today and so I accompanied him and picked up some apples! I love love love fruit.
Anyway, I'm about to finish the rest of my homework for the day, then hopefully I'll be out for a run! Oh, I've also realized I'm more "motherly" than I thought- "Did you eat dinner?" "I'll turn off the straightener for you." "Dont forget to lock the door." "I'll just turn off the light." etc...haha
Here's a cute pic of the roomie and me in the meantime (this was before church Sunday):

found!
ok, if you look at my post below, you will see i have an owl hanging above my bed. Today i was googling "retro owl" (don't ask) and check out what came up!
That's right...you can buy the set for $17. I got the "mother owl" for only 75¢ at DI. i LOVE bargains.
And, the other thing that made me happy is that I own something truly retro/vintage. From the 70s. Hoorah!

time for an update?
Hello all.
I'm just sitting here at my place in Cedar. I can't believe I'm officially a "college student". I even got my T-card (student ID) today. That's pretty official, right? Today is my third day here, and it's getting better and easier each day.
My mom was an amazing help to me on Monday. She came down, and spent all day (literally) helping me unpack, coordinate everything, and then made multiple trips to Walmart for things I'd forgotten, and in some cases, just wanted (like the adorable 6-picture frame now hanging above my bed). She also stocked me up on some essential groceries. :) hooray!
Tuesday my adventure at the University Journal started. We had a staff meeting and I got two assignments! It's definitely a quicker pace than the TX was in high school, but I think it'll be fun nonetheless. I just finished up the first article (and deadline isn't even until 10 pm. woo) and then the second article is due tomorrow morning.
I feel like Sabrina (the teenage witch). I think I got a lot of things from her. Examples? I love Massachusetts (and that's where she lived) and she was a journalist....ahem. And I remember an episode where she was writing a story and it was almost the deadline and she fell asleep on her laptop. The next morning she woke up and the whole story said "Zabrina Spellman" all over. Or something akin to that. Anyway, I got sidetracked. Sorry.
So that was yesterday. I met another roommate. There are 6 of us here. Brook is a junior and Sam, Kira and Megan are all freshmen. We are still awaiting the arrival of the last girl, Marie. No one knows who she is.
I've been getting a lot of exercise walking to and from campus each day, but I love the tree-lined streets and so I don't mind. I might when I'm lugging some books, but oh well :) I also went running last night...it was glorious! I had amazing energy.
Today I had another meeting for the paper, and then I went to help out some other freshmen move into the dorms and "freshmen housing" with the rest of the SUUSA folks. It was fun to see familiar faces of those I'd met when I came down earlier.
Anyway, this is a super long post. I apologize! Tonight our "flight school" kicks off with a presentation and then a "tye-dye" night. Hopefully I meet a lot of cool people!
Until next time, here is a pic of my room!
{notice the cinderblocks? they create lovely storage. and then there is my blue frame, the fantastic orange pillowcase and vase on the bookshelf, also notice my radical owl?)

weber fair idol.
I'm not sure if I ever said anything on my blog about this, but I auditioned for Weber Fair Idol back in July and made the first cut! Each night of the fair had themes...Wednesday was the first night. It was "broadway". I'm not a broadway singer, but I did my best with "I Can Hear the Bells" from Hairspray. I did pretty good, I felt. It was cool to have the judges critique me. They're supposed to be similar to American Idol judges (meaning we had a "Randy", a "Paula", and a mean "Simon"). I was so grateful to have many friends there supporting me! Thanks for everyone who came out :)
Thursday was "pop" night. I chose to sing "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles. I was much more comfortable with this night's choice. Once again, the judges just said to sing with more emotion, but other than that, it was good.
Friday was "our choice". I was going to sing my own song originally, but then, thinking of the judges statements the night before, decided to sing "Suds in the Bucket". I got all country'ed up, and headed off to the fairgrounds. Well, they do the cuts from the previous night before the show starts. And I got cut. Honestly, I was a little surprised, but, it was a great experience!! I still love performing and singing. :) And, I'm not going to lie, I was happy when the fair workers said, "I was surprised you got voted off. I was cheerin' for you." What a great comment! Haha. The remaining contestants all have extreme talent though, and I'm still going to go tonight because I can't wait to see how they all perform (plus tonight is country night!). And I love country!
So, without further ado, here are some pics from my time with Fair Idol..

happy birthday mom!!
tomorrow (monday) is my mom's birthday. She is so hip, cool, and lovely. What i love about my mom is that she is so "with it". My mom always hears about the boys i like, and knows when something exciting happens. she has always listened to my problems too. and believe me, there have been many!! :) And, she won the pie-eating contest at the fair last year against a bunch of men...way to go!
My mom is also so supportive of me. In high school, I would always hear her at cross country meets proudly yelling, "Go Cheri!!!" and she was always at all the choir concerts she could be. She is also a great example of faith and a testimony of enduring love.
Another thing is that my mom is so dedicated to her work- and she likes to make sure her coworkers know it. She makes a special treat on their birthdays, and even made 500 cupcakes (and frostened each one) for a fedex celebration!
For the last 7 years, it's been just me and my mom. That's going to change in 2 short weeks. I can't believe it. I've been so lucky to have her right by my side. We always joke that we are more like "roommates" than mother/daughter. I love our midnight shopping trips to Walmart (or Kohls occasionally when they have "late-owl" hours), our habit of baking cookies/zucchini bars/cupcakes nearly every week, our sleep-in Saturdays, our matching outfits (we have purposely bought the same shirt for "matching outfit" pictures), etc.

discovering a new favorite place to eat

waiting at kohls at 5 am black Friday morning (after being up 2-ish hours)

a contest at the fair

she makes cute jack-o-lanterns

lookin' sassy talking on the phone

one of the first matching outfits :)
