Lovely title post right? Right now I'm listening to "Circus" by Britney Spears. I can't believe that 1) I like the song (or the beat) and 2) I'm admitting that. Anyway, it's on a playlist I made, along with...Kris Allen, "Waking Up in Vegas" and "Poker Face". I normally don't listen to pop, but I like those songs...and I wish I had them to run with!! Haha.
Anyway, I am always bored on my summer days (since I normally work later) and I've been trying to figure out things to do so I don't go absolutely crazy. I love watching Reba, but I feel pathetic watching 2 or 3 episodes each morning! Then I go on to abc.com and catch up on some stupid reality TV shows (an addictive waste of time). I manage at some point to eat breakfast, or sometimes I don't wind up eating a meal until around lunchtime. I've tried to declutter my room, I've fixed my college class schedule, I've studied all about the study abroad program (something I want to do in the next 2 years). I've called old friends, I've called best friends (sometimes I talk to them 3xs a day...Hollie!). I started writing a new song on guitar, and then I tried to write a new song on the piano...I've decided to try out for the upcoming "fair idol". :) I've gone running in the rain....I spent a chunk of my time at the library Monday...so it's not that I've just been at home. But anyway, I need a summer project! Any suggestions?!
K, on to the second part of my post. So, Monday I stopped by the library. I wanted to "fall in love" with reading again. I picked up the last book in a series I started last summer (Hearts of the Children), and then checked out the new book section. I decided to check out a new book, "An Accomplished Woman". It's not too bad, but it's not that interesting either. I want a book that I just can't put down. Those are the best :) Then I also checked out "He's Just Not That Into You". I was SO excited to read it on my break yesterday at work, but after reading a little bit of it, I decided not to finish it. Basically, there is a lot of language in that book that I don't like. The part I did read gave me good insight into the minds of boys...if he likes you, he'll make the effort! I also checked out a book called "Choosing Civility" by P.M. Forni. It's a book I have to read for one of my college classes. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it, but as I started reading it today while munching on my salad with lemon-pepper chicken + sundried tomato dressing, I realized something....the book is awesome!
It has 25 ruels of considerate conduct. In the little time it took to eat my lunch, I ended up reading 40 pages. Even though I rented it from the local library, I think I'm going to go buy it cause it's just that good! Here are some of my favorite things so far:
"Restraint is an infusion of thinking --and thoughtfullness-- into everything we do. We choose the behavior that, although it may not seem the most gratifying now, will make us feel good five minutes from now, tomorrow, or next year. Restraint is the art of feeling good later. In fact, most of life's wisdom is about choosing what will make us feel good later."
Now, I'm not someone with an out-of-control temper, but I do occasionally get in arguments. I'm going to try and be better at restraining myself from saying something I will probably regret. Ok, and here is another thing I liked that had to do with paying attention:
"When we pay attention, when we are alert to the world, we improve substantially the quality of our responses and therefore the quality of our lives and of the lives of those who touch ours."
It followed with some examples. One of them was letting a car into your lane while driving. It made me happy because this is something I have tried to do and something I have tried to be aware of while driving.
Anyway, it's a good book. I'm excited to read the other rules to civility :)
