sometimes, i feel like i'm living in seattle. i think it has rained all but one or two pdays since i've been here, but....the rain is beautiful anyway! last night we were listening to MoTab and the song "Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep" came on (and they sing that in White Christmas, you know, one of my favorite movies -- I thought of you when the song came on, mom) and Sister Hale said it reminded her of Christmas with the rain coming down, kind of like snow. Anyway, for a minute, I was really excited about Christmastime. Hehe, but I'm also very excited for the FOURTH of July!
anyway, as for an update for the week...
we moved four families this week! it was a busy week, full of service, and it made us feel good that we were able to help these families. it also reminded me how grateful i am for being raised to be clean and keep our rooms clean, the kitchen floor clean, etc. we actually had to use gloves for all but one house, and found pretty unsightly things in most cases. i am so grateful to have that upbringing. we were glad to help them either way, but it sure made me grateful for how i was raised!
we visited less actives this week, and started a "training program" for member families (on how to be member missionaries). our first lesson was with the Blom family about the "mission culture." it starts out with the doctrine of Christ (which is the path), and being forever changed (the result), evidenced by obedience. when you start reading the scriptures looking to see evidence of the doctrine/gospel of Christ (faith, repentance, baptism, Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end), you will see that it is everywhere. everything really falls back on if we believe and live the doctrine of Christ. if we do, we will be forever changing and obedient.
one of my favorite verses this week in personal study was jacob 7:25. in spanish, it says "pudieron ser, hasta el momento, vencedores de sus enemigos." in other words, we can be conquerors of our enemies when we are built on the rock of salvation, which i applied as the doctrine of Christ. I know we can become conquerors of all the "enemies" we face in our daily life when we are built on this rock!
sunday was a very spiritual sacrament meeting! the Blom's daughter, Madison, returned from a year exchange program to France. Their family spoke in Sacrament Meeting, and I was able to do an impromptu musical number with her while she sang in French. I loved this quote, read by their son:
"We need to make our homes a place of refuge from the storm, which is increasing in intensity all about us. Even if the smallest openings are left unattended, negative influences can penetrate the very walls of our homes."
Please be cautious of this. The home is the place we can trust and where we can have peace and happiness with each other ... make your homes a heaven and a safe haven. It will bless your lives!
i love you all! congrats to jen & jon with Miriam. She is beautiful!
talk to you all next week,
sister peacock
