raindrops keep falling on my head.

In preparation for the mission, I've been doing some online shopping to find some rain gear. I've never owned rain boots or a rain jacket, for that matter. I won a giftcard to L.L. Bean, so I've been checking out their inventory.

Any suggestions for rainy New York weather? Here are some items I've found:

i also love the yellow boots, obvi.
The tall version, as compared to the mid boots above, $10 more.

I like the black,  beechnut, or dark navy colors the best & I love that it can fold up into a nice little pocket (perfect for traveling).

I like the beechnut or coastal blue colors best. This one is $40 cheaper than the Trail Model. I'm not sure the difference in "wind breaker" vs "rain jacket" when they both claim to be waterproof.

Any suggestions on living in the northeast and battling rain while out & about?

I love my REI rain jacket. It's a trench, which I think looks nicer than the ones above. I think you need something that hits mid-thigh and also has a belt. The other ones are too casual to go with what missionaries are supposed to wear. I would go with something in black or navy so it can go with many outfits.
As for rain boots, I would go with something taller. When you're walking quite a bit, especially on city streets, you're going to want to keep as much dry as possible!
I wear my jacket exclusively in rain, no umbrella needed. It's lovely.

Good advise from Jen. I'd go with the taller boots as well, and maybe something with a fun color but no pattern (since as I recall you have a lot of patterned skirts).

I'd also agree with Jen on the rain jacket - something with a belt, mid-thigh. It'll look a little more dressy and cute with your mission clothes. You don't want to look frumpy - because if you look frumpy, you'll feel frumpy!
